Research : Music

The animated films, embedded in the work, include tracks such as ‘A Lark Ascended (Classical Violin), Mozart and other classical music.

However, I have been exploring 11 and 12 string guitar music as well as more modern, nature themed music such as Bjork, Biophilia (which also includes birdsong).

Bohm saw the movement, change or flow, and the coherence of experiences, such as listening to music, as a manifestation of the implicate order.

Cymatics (mechanical wave function geometry) and harmonics is also be another fruitful area of research.

I am also in the process of researching ‘natural’ sound effects and ‘looped’ music as this may also fit the aesthetics such as Andrew Bird.

Practice-Research: Motion

Practice – Based ‘Nature’ Experiments.
Animated Films on screens

Player Walk Motion (T Waypoint)
Grass procedural generation motion
First Double Helix in motion (This is a single Helix).
Second Double Helix in motion (This is a single Helix)
Lemniscate form in motion

“The new form of insight can perhaps best be called Undivided Wholeness in Flowing Movement. This view implies that flow is, in some sense, prior to that of the ‘things’ that can be seen to form and dissolve in this flow”

I am interested in how I might be able to incorporate Bhom’s enfolded universe in this project. The motion dynimatics illustrated in the videos, my own ‘nature’ experiments and unity’s capacity to create procedural object generation, could be the starting point for a set of motion experiments.

GDC Vault : Physics in Unity

https://manifold.garden/#home

This is a great example of the kind of game mechanics that I was thinking off. His use of impossible form, enfoldment and gravity speaks to Bhom’s theory.

The artists intention was to play with the concepts of Escher and this is reflected in the architechtural forms. Escher was mentioned in the ‘show and tell’ meeting and I misunderstood its reference until I found the manifold garden game. This game will be an excellent example to reference in the proposal. The GDC Vault offers an insight into the game level development.

I am more interested in organic, natural forms and newtonian physical principles but with reference to Quantum Mechanics but I am unsure what that will look like at this time.

Next Steps:

The next step is to experiment with procedural game objects, gravity, form and other motion.

Curation

I am interested in creating a flow through the work and I am considering how each piece will be read in isolation and in relation to other work.

I am not sure if writing a curatorial statement will help better define the experience and explain what I am trying to achieve.

This may guide the projects development but will need refining as meaning may emerge out of the finished work
