How can we put our guests in the movie ?

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs experience design does not include snow white as the viewer is snow white. The guest is offered the apple (:D) but this was confusing to the guest.

The experience of watching snow white is different to being snow white… The guest does not make the choices as the film character does. We are projecting ourselves into the world… What would it feel like if I was there (I am modelling the world in my head).

Give the guest a role (We are telling the player that they have been trapped by the mystic… their goal is to find their way out) but it is not related to the opera but the Halloween event.

The haunted mansion ghost host tells the guest what their role is… they are invited guests.

The guest might imagine that they are a space traveller guest and they know this as they find themselves in an spaceport departure room and they meet the space captain.

Guardians of the Galaxy breakout the visitor is an accomplice to the guardians and we need to break them out. A racoon recruits you to use your human hands to help with the break out.

When the guest has a role they are able to inhabit the world.. when things are static things can get scary. We can bring these to life (mechanical birds – automata) Animatronics 😀 (Kinetic sculpture..)

The guest is a silent observer.

Snow white responds to the world and vice versa (Haptic feedback loops)

Vialou creatures in the guardians of the galaxy experience. (AI robot..) Each Vialou has their own personality with is enacted. The guests interaction make the world more real. A static world is a dead one (and is very scary).

The guest is a protagonist which takes action to move the story forward. Action is the foundation of play and challenge. There are funny and ridiculous things we do in private that they wouldn’t do in public..  How do we get a teenager to wear a silly hat? We create a magic circle.

HERE YOU LEAVE TODAY AND ENTER THE WORLD OF YESTERDAY,
TOMORROW AND FANTASY.
We are not asking you to play in the real world but a fantasy world that exists in the real world and you now have permission to play.
In Activate the World the guest would be given a mobile phone through which they would receive instructions for a scavenger hunt.
The Play Disney Parks App. The guest is able to collect pixie dust and find hidden objects and make tinker bell appear. At the Star Wars Galaxy Edge experience, the guest and the device steps into the narrative. The mobile phone becomes a star wars data pad and you can join the resistance and go on a mission (or the 1st order). The guest takes action and the world changes… The guest is the protagonist and the narrative moves forward because of it.
The haunted Mansion Ghost Post Pilot.
A ghost will follow you home … 🙂
What is the ghosts ability to get outside the mansion is restricted.
Each box has props which can be physically used and will unlock parts of the story, it will advance and help the ghosts ability to haunt. Things that Reflect (William Kentridges tables), the guest can use a cloth to reveal ghost writing between the lines of a letter. We can combine the devices own apps to create something new (such as using the device measure to create a phantom radio to hear the voices of the ghosts). The guest progress is saved and so when they return to the park, the guest can continue with their quest. When the guest returns they are recognised as someone special.. someone who is helping them to get their haunt on! 😀 Eventually the ballroom becomes a celebration event as the guest has succeeded in helping the ghosts to travel in their haunting.
Aiming games are very useful because the ability to interact with objects (whether real or virtual) at a distance expands the possibility space.
Buzz Lightyear – Blast
Ant man and the wasp – nano battle
Toy Story mania : You play carnival games that your toy story friends have set up.
Video Game makers assume that the player will sit, watch a screen and use a controller that they are familiar with.
In Experience design.. all these elements can be built.
Interface Design and Development
Periphery Device Designs are developed and play tested because some devices feel like a weapon and some are easier for adults or children to use. When in use they guest might need more targets to aim at.
Pirates Lair Tom Sawyer Island Map.
Camp Discovery – Shanghai Disney land – At every choice point the guest can chose the level of challenge they want.
The Try, Fail Success loop can be applied in physical space and can be greatly rewarding to the guest because they are succeeding and sharing their success with their friends and family.
The friends of the hero… building relationships with characters. The character can see you… Mickey Mouse or Crush where he asks questions and the children ask him questions in turn.
Automatronics
Enchanted Tales with Belle – Disney USA
  • Help Belle Celebrate her Anniversary with the Beast
  • The Guest can choose what role they wish to play.
  • The luminaire is an automatronic
  • Belle (performer) engages with guests as they help her in this quest.
  • At the end , Belle hugs the guests and ‘sees’ the guest.
The guest wants the same experience as the characters in the Disney films such as flying in peter pan…Sensation, Haptics, Touch… How does it Feel?
This experience places the guests in a flying vehicle where they can look down upon the forced perspective of a world below.
In Soarin’ around the world the guest glides through locations around the world. The guests are  moved in relation to their projected movement and smells, motion, sight and body movement correlates (similar to Cadbury world).
Eg: Avatar: Flight of Passage
Eg: Star wars: Galaxies Edge – Flying  the Millenium Falcon… 😀

  • You can bring the environment to life.
  • You can overcome challenges and move the narrative forward hit the button and you hit lightspeed .
  • Friends will react differently to how you flew the falcon.

  • Build a magic circle (a circle of play)
  • Create an opportunity to discover.
  • Enable to guest to be the protagonist, move the narrative forward and take action.
  • The Heros Journey: Try, fail Succeed game mechanics.
  • Can the challenge be modulated ?
  • Can the experience be shared ? In the moment ? Afterwards?
  • Scratch and sniff!!
